Who we are

Global Public Speaking LLC is one of the world’s foremost training and coaching firms for public speaking and presentation skills. Our philosophy is based on the belief that every single one of us has something powerful to say – on behalf of ourselves or others. Our mission is to help people find their voice, build their communication skills, and in doing so find their confidence to speak up on behalf of what they believe in. We work with global brands, international nonprofits, and empowered individuals who want to speak with impact.

Our story

Allison Shapira started Global Public Speaking LLC in Boston, MA in 2003. A former opera singer, she had been working in the field of diplomacy when she realized that everything she learned as a musician made her a powerful public speaker and coach. She started coaching individuals and training teams, all the while developing her own unique methodology that blended musical principles with adult learning methods. She consulted with David Gergen, advisor to four US Presidents, when he taught the Arts of Communication at the Harvard Kennedy School. Ten years later, she herself would teach that course as an adjunct lecturer at Harvard.

“I realized that instead of trying to fit myself into a box at someone else’s office, I had developed my own unique skill set that I could build a company around.”

– Allison Shapira

In 2012, Allison took a leap of faith and moved the business to Washington, DC. In her first year in Washington, DC, she worked with 35 organizations and soon the business took off. She built training programs for Fortune 50 clients, international organizations, and the US Federal Government, and she hired a talented administrative team. She started working with the nonprofit Vital Voices Global Partnership and traveled around the world teaching communication skills to women leaders who are growing a business, launching a nonprofit, or running for office.

In 2017, Allison and her team brought on other expert trainers and coaches to expand the business and increase its impact. In 2018, Allison published Speak With Impact: How to Command the Room and Influence Others with HarperCollins Leadership, making her methodology and philosophy accessible to people around the world.

Allison was a finalist for Woman Business Owner of the Year by the National Association of Women Business Owners, San Diego Chapter, and has spoken at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit. She is also a world-renowned singer and songwriter who uses her talent to create inspiring musical keynote speeches. She is a member of the two-woman band Joan & Joni, a tribute to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, which she performs with fellow musician Kipyn Martin.
